NIGERIA ARMY HAND OVER 348 BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS TO THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE. Over 348 suspected members of Ismalist sect, Boko Haram, have been handed over to the Kashim Shettima, the Borno state governor. According to reports, this development is in the wake of Nigeria’s independence day celebration across the country. General Victor Ezugwu, the GOC of 7 division Nigerian Army, informed that this makes it the fifth time that this kind of event will take place since he assumed office. “The process ensures that those captured while participating actively or passively in creating sorrow and mayhem in the society are screened out for necessary judicial recourse. READ ALSO: Endless gains of Buratai’s diplomatic shuttles “The cleared suspects are made up of 114 male, 107 female, 127 children and 115 under aged (5-10 years old, while 12 are 11years and above. “I am therefore here today to once again enforce the magnanimity of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) by presenting the cleared suspects to His Excellency, Governor of Borno state, Hon. Kashim Shettima for rehabilitation and reintegration back into their respective LGAs,” the army general explained. He also stated that those who were not released would be handed over to other security operatives for necessary actions, adding that, “amongst them are 6 foreigners who illegally entered Nigeria. They consist of 4 Cameroonian, 1 Chadian and 1 Jamaican. These foreigners would be handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for deportation.” In another development, Niger’s army reports that scores of Boko Haram militants have been killed during an operation that has taken place in the nation’s southeast for several months. However, the exact number is yet to be verified. Colonel Moustapha Ledru, the spokesman for the defence ministry, has told the state television on Friday that “123 terrorists had been killed, two fighters were captured and a large quantity of arms recovered from the insurgents.” According to Mr Ledru, 14 soldiers were killed and 29 wounded in the joint operations with Chad’s troops between July and September 28. The eliminated terrorists infiltrated into Diffa region (on the northeastern border of Nigeria) from Nigeria.
