Malawians President Peter Mutharika is still missing

Malawi President Peter Mutharika is yet to return home after attending the United Nations General Assembly last month

Malawians have started to question the absence of their President Peter Mutharika after he went for the United Nations General Assembly last month. It is nearly a month now and he is no where to be found. The meeting ended on September 26 and it was expected that the head of state would return to his homeland.

But Mutharika did not and his absence has caused a buzz in Malawi. Some Malawians are even joking about their president’s absence using the hashtag #BringBackMutharika, which trended on Twitter in Malawi.
Another even said: ” President Mutharika of Malawi came to the US for UNGA but has gone missing.” Using the hashtag #BringBackMutharika.
Rumors about the President is already circulating that Mutharika prolonged his time in the United States because he is ill and seeking medical treatment. But a government spokesman claims it is false that the president is enjoying very good and robust health, he went further to condemn the spreading of such rumor about the president claiming it is a criminal offense.
Malawians are only assured by a government spokesman that their president would return since a month now. This keeps them questioning the reason for their president’s absence.
